TERRA VITE VINEYARD FALL CLUB PICK-UP 01 SEPT 2022

Image
The stop at Terra Vite Vineyard is quick as we were just here last week for a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc, so the pick-up is sandwiched between lunch at Barrow Food House and full tasting at McCall Winery.   The vineyard is calm and peaceful, with a very inviting tasting room drawing you in to linger and enjoy the fine wine (Fig 01, 02).   It is a tuck, roll, grab, pick-up netting us three fine wines today.   First is the terra Vite's 2021 Marea Rosé, a delightful blend of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.   Next, hailing from the Diliberto era, is the 2019 Syrah and, from deep in the cellar, a 2016 Merlot; both have been very enjoyable in the past (Fig 03). Looking forward to exploring all three.  #longislandwineries #vineyardviews #wineryvibes #liwine #licharacter #longislandwine #northforkwineries #longislandwinery #longislandnorthfork #northforker #discoverlongisland #topwineries #northforkwinetrail #liwinecountry #liwine #lisustainablewinegrowers #nywinegrapefdn #nof

EXPEDITION LUNCH, WINE TASTING, BEEF AND PICKUP 01 SEPT 2022

Image
A week later, we are back on the road again to grab lunch, explore a new winery and ranch then do two pickups.  Four stops and 183 miles later, we had delicious lunch and lots of wine to replenish our stock (Fig 00).  The first stop was at Barrow Food House , a wonderful place to have lunch, which we found, through Sparkling Pointe Vineyard .   A few weeks ago, Barrow Food House provided the Lobster Roll to the Sparkling Pointe Lobster Roll , North Fork Potato Chip , and Pearl Street Caviar pairing event at the end of August.   The Lobster roll (Fig 01) was so good that we needed to come and check out Barrow Food House , and it did not disappoint with a detailed posting to follow (Fig 02).      The next stop was a quick pickup at Terra Vite Vineyards , which we had missed the week before (Fig 03).   The next was a duel stop for a wine tasting (Fig 04) and to acquire a block of fresh free-range grass feed beef from a long Island Ranch (Fig 05).   Yes, Long Island has had cattle r

Continuing on our expedition for the end of August and after gorging ourselves at the Sparkling Pointe Lobster Roll Event , we rolled on to Raphael Vineyards for a quick pick-up, followed by a stop at Verra Vite Vineyard , expecting to do a quick pick-up.   Well, due to a misreading on my part of an E-Mail, the fall pick-up was not quite ready.   However, rather than let a good winery stop go to waste, we opted to do a tasting which quickly turned into a bottle.   Terra Vite is a beautiful, inviting place with a modest but well-appointed tasting room and outdoor seating (Fig 01,02).     The wine we selected was a 2021 Sauvignon Blanc (Fig 03) which was a wise choice.  It is a clean, crisp wine with pleasing notes of grapefruit and a hint of peach.  We will be returning in a few weeks to pick up our fall club selection and, of course, add on a few bottles of the 2021 Sauvignon Blanc.   #longislandwineries #vineyardviews #wineryvibes #liwine #licharacter #longislandwine #northforkwi

EXPEDITION 28 AUG 2022

Most time, our expeditions out to wine country involve Jo driving with me doing tuck, roll, and grab into all the wineries on the pickup list for the day; however, this trip was very different (Fig 00).  We were joined by friends Mary and Pete, with the first stop being Sparkling Pointe , not for a pickup but a Lobster roll event (Fig 01) which was so good it requires a separate blog posting just for the lobster roll alone.   After almost 2 hours of gorging on good food and sparkling wine, we roll on to 3 “quick” pickups.   Raphael Winery was first up, and we grabbed our 6-bottle club selection (Fig 02).   Following Raphael, we went to Terra Vite Winery & Vineyard for a pickup, but the wine was not yet available (My Bad), so we relaxed with an after-lunch bottle of Terra Vite’s 2021 Sauvignon Blanc (Fig 03).   From there, it was on to Roanoke Vineyards for our three bottles fall pickup, but we stopped for a quick tasting (Fig 04).  Overall, a fun-filled adventure to the #Nort

TERRA VITE VINEYARD CLUB PICK-UP 09 JUN 2022

We are still rolling on this mission from God to winery number five for today, Terra Vite Winery & Vineyards .  Terra Vite has completed the transition from Diliberto; however, a few bottles of the old wine are still around.  Gone is the old Italian vibe, nude Rubenesque frescos on the walls, Sal singing Opera as he tossed a pie into the oven.  Replacing this is a modern family feel with various events, food, and wines.  The team is always warm and friendly.  It is impossible to do a grab-and-go without at least one glass of something new to try.  Today is a 3-bottle pick-up consisting of a 2021 Sole (Chardonnay – Steel), 2021 White Merlot, and 2019 Cabernet Franc (Fig 01).  All three are medium alcohol (12 – 13 %), clean, crisp, easy-drinking fun wines.  Terra Vite provides a summary of each wine and the complete wine list (15 in total) on the website (Fig 02).  Terra Vite also has several flights available, but the team is very flexible to meet your preferences.  The team is we

EXPEDITION: WINE PICKUP 09 JUN 2022

Summer is officially here, and it is time for the next wine club pickups and deliveries.   The summer pickup was structured as if we were on a ‘mission from God’(FIG 10).  The pickup runs covered six wineries, 152 miles in about 5 hours, retrieving fifty-four bottles of wine, including ten bottles for friends with some clubs in common with us.  First, of course, we needed the SUV to fit everything, so Jo became the designated driver, and I did the tuck and roll at each winery to dart in, grab the wine, and go.  We made stops at Pellegrini Vineyards (Fig 01), Lenz Winery (Fig 02), Sparkling Pointe (Fig 03), Sannino Vineyards (Fig 04), Terra Vite Winery & Vineyard (Fig 05), and Roanoke Vineyards (Fig 06).   Deliveries from Kontokosta Winery (Fig 07), Raphael Winery (Fig 08), and W ö lffer Estate Vineyard (Fig 09) round out the early June 2022 Clubs.   Each club selection will be covered in a separate posting and the late June pickups. #longislandwineries #vineyardviews #wineryvib

TERRA VITE PICKUP and TASTING 28 MARCH 2022

Image
Terra Vite Winery & Vineyard was the last stop on the Mid-March Wine Pick-Up Expedition and scheduled to be a pick-up only, but a friendly team and a new wine led to a tasting. The March Club is three wines Diliberto 2016 TRE Red blend, Terra Vite 2019 NOFO Classico , and Terra Vite 2020 Marea Ros é (Figure 1).   After the tasting, we added two bottles of the new Terra Vite 2021 SAUVIGNON BLANC, training the total haul to five bottles (Figure 2). The 2016 Tre Red blend is the last of the Diliberto label.   It is a consistently good Bordeaux style blend, traditionally a rich, medium mouthfeel wine with well-structured tannins and bright acidity—looking forward to tapping this bottle soon.   The Terra Vite 2019 NOFO Classico (Figure 3) is the Long Island version of a Merlot dominant Bordeaux based on the blend on the attached fact sheet from the Terra Vite website.   The NOFO Classico should be a tannin-rich fruit-forward wine that will age well in the cellar.   The Terra

MID-MARCH LUNCH PICKUP and TASTINGS 18 MAR 2022

Time for the next round of pickups, and we were able to add in lunch and tasting at two new to us places.  Given that we were adding in at least one full tasting at a first visit winery, we decided to have a large lunch first to help buffer all the fine wine to follow.  So the first Stop was the Cooperage Inn for lunch, followed by pickups at Roanoke Vineyards , Lieb Cellars , Sparkling Pointe , Suhru Wines , and Terra Vite Winery & Vineyard (Figure 1).  In the past, we have stopped at the Cooperage inn but only to use their outside pickup window for NOFO Pot Pies (Figure 2).  We spent over an hour at lunch and then picked up five Pot Pies for friends and Family.  Lunch was fantastic, requiring a separate posting at the liwinedad-cooperage inn to discuss how enjoyable the lunch was.  Roanoke Vineyards, Lieb Cellars, and Sparkling Point were our classic drive-by pickups, except we also picked up for our friends at Roanoke and Sparkling Pointe, which quickly fill the SUV.  Each

LATE FALL-WINTER PICK UP 2021

Image
As our followers have noticed, this blog has been still for many months; nothing was wrong; the redoing of the front of our home kept us preoccupied and from wine country from the mid-summer till this week.  We are back on the road again, making the pick-up enjoying a few glasses of wine in the vineyards, and filling out the wine cellar for the coming holidays.  Good this Christmas day is at our home this year.  We had so many clubs and past club selections that we needed to do pick-ups on two separate trips.  Between the fall and winter club selection, we brought home over 100 bottles.  The first run on 19 Nov had us bringing home 44 bottles (Figure 1), and the 08 DEC run fetched 55 bottles from 9 wineries (Figure 2).  1 - 19 NOV 2021 WINE PICK-UP 2 - DEC 2021 WINE PICK-UP We still have Channing Daughters Winery and Wölffer Estate Vineyard for one more run before Christmas and delivery from Jamesport before we close out the year.  To balance all this fine Long Island wine, we also h
