EXPEDITION LUNCH AND PICK-UPS 08 SEPT 2022

Image
A new week a new expedition to wine country for a leisurely lunch, and a few quick club pick-ups with detailed posting for each stop to follow shortly (Fig 00).  The first stop was for lunch at an old friend, the Sound Avenue Bistro (Fig 01).   This time we sat outside by a small waterfall and pond, and the food was fantastic as always.   From lunch, it was on to Pellegrini Vineyards to collect the six-pack fall club (Fig 02).    The next winery is Sannino Vineyard for our four-pack club, and of course, we added on a three-pack of spiced wine.   Lastly was a long overdue visit to Long Island Spirits (LIV) to pick up some Vodka and the rough rider bourbon.  Overall, a well-paced 135-mile 5-hour lunch and club pick-up. #longislandwineries #vineyardviews #wineryvibes #liwine #licharacter #longislandwine #northforkwineries #longislandwinery #longislandnorthfork #northforker #discoverlongisland #topwineries #northforkwinetrail #liwinecountry #liwine #lisustainablewinegrowers #nywine

SANNINO VINEYARD CLUB PICK-UP 09 JUN 2022

Image
Stop number 4 on the club pick-up along the #northforkwinetrail.   Sannino Vineyard is a relatively new winery-built-for-purpose building just a few years old.  Sannino has a separate members’ tasting room (Fig 01) in a modern rustic farmhouse style.  The main tasting room opens to the patio with an expansive view of the Vineyard and Sannino’s Bed and Breakfast (Fig 02).  Today’s pick-up was a four-pack of reds (Fig 03), including a 2019 Petit Verdot, Prima Rossa (Blend – Merlot/Cabernet Franc), 2019 Merlot, and a 2019 Cabernet Franc.  Sannino provides a short description of each wine on page four of their Menu (Fig 07), and each from experience has been quite good.  The price points of the wines also make them very accessible as a glass of daily drinking wine.  Sannino is a fine place to relax and enjoy a flight or two when not doing a grab-and-go.  Many tasting options, including reds, whites, Estate, and single glasses, are outlined on the menu’s cover (Fig 04).  For 2022 Sannino

EXPEDITION: WINE PICKUP 09 JUN 2022

Image
Summer is officially here, and it is time for the next wine club pickups and deliveries.   The summer pickup was structured as if we were on a ‘mission from God’(FIG 10).  The pickup runs covered six wineries, 152 miles in about 5 hours, retrieving fifty-four bottles of wine, including ten bottles for friends with some clubs in common with us.  First, of course, we needed the SUV to fit everything, so Jo became the designated driver, and I did the tuck and roll at each winery to dart in, grab the wine, and go.  We made stops at Pellegrini Vineyards (Fig 01), Lenz Winery (Fig 02), Sparkling Pointe (Fig 03), Sannino Vineyards (Fig 04), Terra Vite Winery & Vineyard (Fig 05), and Roanoke Vineyards (Fig 06).   Deliveries from Kontokosta Winery (Fig 07), Raphael Winery (Fig 08), and W ö lffer Estate Vineyard (Fig 09) round out the early June 2022 Clubs.   Each club selection will be covered in a separate posting and the late June pickups. #longislandwineries #vineyardviews #wineryvib

SANNINO PICK-UP 03 MARCH 2022

Image
As part of the 03 March pick-up run and tasting, we stopped at Sannino Vineyard just for a drive-by Pick-up of our March wine club selection.   The March club (Cantina – Red) featured four wines, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2019 Cabernet Franc, 2019 Prima Rossa, and 2019 Francesco (Figure 1).   Unfortunately, being pressed for time, we could not taste each wine, but Sannino provided a reference card that provided a short note on what each wine was all about (Figure 2).   Of course, a more detailed personal tasting note will follow later as we enjoy these wines.     The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is an Estate grown North Fork AVA wine that, using the past as a guide, should have good fruit of dark plums and maybe black currents, all with some Herbaceous notes (think Green Bell Peppers). The 2019 Cabernet Franc follows in a fine line of prior vintages, which opens with black cherry and sometimes Bramble, Herbaceous notes, and a medium peppery finish.   The 2019 Prima Rosa is a

PELLEGRINI VINEYARD PICK-UP AND TASTING 03 MAR 2022

Time for the March pick-up at Pellegrini Vineyards , and this time we brought some lunch from Center Cuts Two and enjoyed a tasting.   The tasting room is bright airy, with a cheery team working the floor (Figure 1).   There were many tables to choose from for a Thursday, the end of the winter season, with good views.   However, more folks were dropping by than expected.   They have a tasting sheet with many wines on it, and you can choose four or have a glass (Figure 2).   The four selected today were the 2019 Pellegrini Vineyards Gew ü zrtraminer , 2019 Pellegrini Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc , 2015 Pellegrini Vineyards Merlot , and 2015 Vintner’s Pride Cabernet Sauvignon (Figure 3).   Jo went for a glass of the 2019 Pellegrini Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc. The 2019 Pellegrini Vineyards Gew ü zrtraminer (Figure 4) presented as a glistening pale straw in the glass with Floral notes of Rose, Grapefruit, and a hint of Ginger.   On the palate, Lychee, Grapefruit, and clove appeared.

PICKUPS LUNCH AND TASTINGS 03 MAR 2022

Image
This year we are trying to do more pickup runs and fewer wineries on each trip so we can linger at each winery and enjoy all they have to offer.  Today's run included two old favorites, a new/old winery, and a new lunch place.  First up was a stop to explore and pick up lunch at a new place called Center Cuts Two in Mattituck with more detail here .  Opening about a year ago, this is a boutique butcher shop and deli (Figure 1).  We wandered around a bit, snapped some photos, ordered lunch (separate post here soon), then headed east to Pellegrini Vineyards for a pickup, tasting, and enjoying the lunch we just grabbed (Figure 2).    All the Pellegrini Vineyards stop details are posted here .  Next up was a drive-by pickup at Sannino Vineyards ( New post here ) and then on the Laurel Lake, now called EV & EM Vineyards (Figure 3), with a more detailed set of comments here soon.  Overall, this was a much more slow and enjoyable-paced pickup run that we will adopt going forwar

SANNINO 2017 MERLOT

Image
A few nights ago, a friend asked what we would do with all the wine we had recently acquired; drink it, is the short answer.  Life is too short not to enjoy good wine with family and friends, so stop in and share a bottle if in the neighborhood.  So, we currently have a friend with us, which makes for an excellent excuse to enjoy some more wine.  First up was a Sannino Vineyard  2017 Merlot (Figure 1).  The color is dark and rich, bright red at the fringes, and a somewhat opaque body—the wine presented with a delicate nose showing notes of blackberries and raspberries.  The taste fills the mouth with dark fruit and very tart cherries.  The acid is very present, adding to the crispness.  The Merlot has been resting in the cellar; the tannins were smoother than expected and, overall, a delightful wine.  One thing we paired it with cast iron pan-seared medallions of pork tenderloin.  A simple salad complimented the medallions, and the wine rounded out the meal perfectly, and we will be

LATE FALL-WINTER PICK UP 2021

Image
As our followers have noticed, this blog has been still for many months; nothing was wrong; the redoing of the front of our home kept us preoccupied and from wine country from the mid-summer till this week.  We are back on the road again, making the pick-up enjoying a few glasses of wine in the vineyards, and filling out the wine cellar for the coming holidays.  Good this Christmas day is at our home this year.  We had so many clubs and past club selections that we needed to do pick-ups on two separate trips.  Between the fall and winter club selection, we brought home over 100 bottles.  The first run on 19 Nov had us bringing home 44 bottles (Figure 1), and the 08 DEC run fetched 55 bottles from 9 wineries (Figure 2).  1 - 19 NOV 2021 WINE PICK-UP 2 - DEC 2021 WINE PICK-UP We still have Channing Daughters Winery and Wölffer Estate Vineyard for one more run before Christmas and delivery from Jamesport before we close out the year.  To balance all this fine Long Island wine, we also h
