CORRA WINES 2019 CABERNET SAUVIGNON 23 MAR 2022

Image
Today is a glorious day as our once-a-year allocation of Corra wine (Figure 1) has arrived from Napa Valley.   Our subscription to Corra dates back over ten years when we were introduced to Celia Welch at a food and wine pairing event at the Blue-Ribbon Brasserie .   We were invited to the event through Lindstrom wine , where Celia is the consulting winemaker.   In addition to the Cabernet Sauvignon that arrived today, Celia occasionally produces a blended white wine called Tail Feathers, one of Jo’s favorites.     Celia has had a long and vibrant career in Napa Valley as a winemaker of her Corra label and a consulting winemaker to some of the most prestigious labels in the valley, Scarecrow, and many more.   A short bio from her Corra website is attached in figure 2, but it does not do justice to all her accomplishments as a consistent 90+ point winemaker.   Shifting to today’s wine, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon has already won critical acclaim, rated at 97 points by Wine Advoc

Lindstrom yearly allocation has arrived 05 MAY 2021

My once-a-year allotment of Lindstrom from Napa arrived Wednesday, much to the delight of all. Lindstrom is the handiwork of one of Napa Valleys' finest consulting winemakers Celia Welch . She also has a hand in such other outstanding labels as Corra and Scarecrow. I started to follow her work almost a decade ago and now have subscriptions to Corra and Scarecrow. In this shipment were both the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon and the 2018 Pinot Noir[1]. The Cabernet Sauvignon package is a solid wood six-pack case. The Pinot Noir came as 2 - 3 pack cardboard boxes. The combined total should last about a year as I treat these wines as a monthly wines [2]. The Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic Stags Leap district Napa Valley wine that consistently sources in the high nineties. The Pinot Noir is from the Russian River Valley and again is a consistently high-scoring wine. I will be tasting a bottle of each shortly before laying them down to rest for a few years. 1-LINDSTROM SHIPMENT 2-LIN

SCARECROW 2018

A wonderful day as my allocation of Scarecrow 2018 arrived.   Scarecrow has achieved cult wine status and is well deserved, given its fine heritage.   The fruit of the renowned J. J. Cohn estate, first planted in 1945, produce this fine wine.   Joseph Judson Cohn (1895 – 1996) had a long career at MGM, and his credits included executive producer of The Wizard of Oz hence the name of the wine. Grapes from the Cohn estate have gone into such legendary labels as Opus One, Niebaum-Coppola, Duckhorn, and Insignia.     The winemaker is the famed Celia Welch , whose other works include Lindstrom and Corra .   Over the past five years, the wine has concisely scored well over 96 points from many reviewers, including several 100-point scores.   The Scarecrow across vintages is a rich, dense purple hue.   The nose can quickly fill a room as it breaths with notes of spice, currents, and a bit of graphite. The mouthfeel is full, and the tannins are well balanced.   2018 has already received a 1

Corra yearly allocation

My once-a-year allotment of Corra wine from Napa arrived Wednesday, much to the delight of my friend, a neighbor across the street Pete.  Corra is the private label of one of Napa Valleys' finest consulting winemakers Celia Welch .  She also has a hand in such other outstanding labels as Lindstrom and Scarecrow.  I started to follow her work almost a decade ago and now have subscriptions to Lindstrom and Scarecrow.  The Corra wine showcases the true beauty of the Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, and this 2018 appears to be no exception, already garnering a 98-point score. With most better reds, they benefit from resting in the cellar for years, and if you can resist, maybe even a decade or so (I cannot).  I will lay down all of the allocations, but of course, I will try one to be sure the wine arrived fine and not stressed in shipment.  This year, I acquired six standard bottles and one magnum of the napa valley Cabernet Sauvignon, a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon but blended from 3 dif
