SPARKLING POINTE LOBSTER ROLL EVENT 28 AUG 2022

Sunday was perfect for a relaxed lunch at Sparkling Pointe (Fig 01, 02, 03). We booked a Lobster Roll and chips pairing event with two friends at Sparkling Pointe Vineyards for the day that included a combination of a full tasting, pairing, and lunch in one sitting. We opened with three tastings paired with a selection of North Fork Potato Chips, followed by a Lobster roll from Barrow Food House paired with a different sparkling wine and Pearl Street Caviar (Fig 04).

The idea of pairing sparkling wine with Potato chips was new to me, and I was pleasantly surprised at how well the combination works together. First up was a Sparkling Pointe 2018 Brut matched with Original Plain North fork Potato Chips (Fig 05). The 2018 Brut blended Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier to produce a crisp, clean feel, with notes of lemon and apple that paired very well with the plain chips. Next was a 2016 Reserve Blanc de Blanc teamed up with the North Fork Potato Chip – Sweet Potato to form a luscious combination (Fig 06). The third in the trio is a 2012 Brut Seduction with North Fork Potato Chip – Sour Cream & Onion, which was my favorite by far. The rich, creamy texture of the wine with the bite of the Sour Cream & Onion made for a perfect match (Fig 07). The main event was the Lobster Roll, which was wonderfully prepared on-site with the team from Barrow Food House (Fig 08). The Lobster Roll was large and well stuffed to overflowing with fresh Lobster meat, which was complimented with the perfect seasoning. The Barrow Food House team did a fine job, and a separate blog post on their restaurant will be ready soon as it was an excellent visit and well worth many more. Of course, the Lobster Roll would not be complete unless accompanied by a 2019 Topaz Imperial, whose light acidity balanced perfectly with the richness of the Lobster roll (Fig 09). To top off the experience, we add Ossetra Caviar from Pearl Street Caviar (Fig 10).

This was a fantastic lunch and wine pairing, and we look forward to the next event.
