LIEB 2013 RESERVE SPARKLING PINOT BLANC 31 AUG 2022

The time has come to enjoy the wine we collected over the past few weeks and rotate older vintages up from the cellar.  Unfortunately, we are a bit long on sparkling wine inventory, so we are starting a tradition of having a post-General Hospital/pre-dinner aperitif of Sparkling wine.  Exploring the cellar, one of the older bottles of Sparkling wine is from Lieb Cellars.  The sparkling wine is a 2013 Reserve Sparkling Pinot Blanc; after dusting it off, the bottle was in excellent condition.  Surprisingly, the cork held all this time and opened with the classic sparkling wine pop.  The Pinot Blanc filled the glass with good effervescence and finished with a full head.  The nose is crisp with notes of toast, citrus, and green apple with a pale golden color (Fig 01).  The wine is remarkably creamy and smooth on the palate, with citrus notes and a bright finish.  The Lieb Cellars Sparkling Pinot Blanc was a fine sparkling wine as an aperitif and well worth keeping in inventory if one can find any more.

  Another day, another fine wine.  Today’s wine came from a friend who has a friend Chris Miller the winemaker at Seabold Cellars .   Chris is also currently involved at Adroit , a winery exploring California’s underutilized wine-growing regions.   The wine for today is an Adroit Wines 2021 Trousseau Stiletto Estate (Fig 01).   Today’s tasting is the first time encountering the Trousseau Grape , an ancient grape from eastern France.  Trousseau is primarily blended in other wines and ports, but here in California the is experimental work being done to use the grape for table wine.  The Trousseau leads with rich dark cherry and rich fruit but with just enough tannins to provide a clean, dry finish.  The Trousseau proved to be the most enjoyable, easy-drinking wine, leaving me looking to acquire many more bottles.  #california #seaboldcellars #adroit #stilettoestate FIG 01 - ADROIT 2021 TROUSSEAU SILETTO ESTATE 17 SEPT 2022

ROANOKE VINEYARDS 2019 GABBY’s CABERNET FRANC 18 SEPT 2022

  A few weeks ago, the 2022 futures wines were picked up, which included a three-pack of Roanoke Vineyards Gabby’s Cabernet Franc 2020.  Given that the three-pack is a 2020 vintage, one might wonder why the bottle we opened is a 2019 Gabby (Fig 01), the exact reason remains a bit of a mystery, but one can assume it was a simple mix-up (Fig 02).  The mix-up, notwithstanding the 2019 Gabby, is a fine wine that presented a bright red color with a bramble nose.  The palate is smooth fruit forward, predominantly dark cherry, bright acid, and smooth tannins.  The Gabby is a fine example of a Long Island Cabernet Franc and should be a good indicator of the 2020 Gabby soon to be opened.  #longislandwineries #vineyardviews #wineryvibes #liwine #licharacter #longislandwine #northforkwineries #longislandwinery #longislandnorthfork #northforker #discoverlongisland #topwineries #northforkwinetrail #liwinecountry #liwine #lisustainablewinegrowers #nywinegrapefdn #nofo #roanokevineyards   FIG 01 -

WOLFFER ESTATE VINEYARD FALL CLUB 16 SEPT 2022
