HOLLY SPRINGS NC FARMERS MARKET 13 AUG 2022

Today is the last day of our expedition to the greater Raleigh, NC area, and the day starts with a trip to the Holly Springs, NC, Farmers Market.  The market is in the classic format of being open every Saturday morning and is chocked full of small vendors with an endless array of farm and home goods.  Today three vendors caught our attention, and we have some items for taking home, but the vendors also accept online orders and ship to Long Island.  The first stop was Misty Morning Ranch for some Ostrich Jerky (Fig 01,02), but the Ranch raises and supplies all Ostrich meat products that can be ordered online and shipped directly to the house.  The next stop was the Natural Choice booth, a purveyor of fine mustards and preserves (Fig 03, 04).  Keeping the best for last, the Remedy Cocktail Company makes a wide selection of Cocktail bitters.  We picked up two bitters (Fig 05), the Aromatic Bitters (Fig 06) and the Noir Bitters (Fig 07).  The bitters paired very well with Bourbon to make some fine pre-dinner drinks.  There will be many more orders in the future.

  Another day, another fine wine.  Today’s wine came from a friend who has a friend Chris Miller the winemaker at Seabold Cellars .   Chris is also currently involved at Adroit , a winery exploring California’s underutilized wine-growing regions.   The wine for today is an Adroit Wines 2021 Trousseau Stiletto Estate (Fig 01).   Today’s tasting is the first time encountering the Trousseau Grape , an ancient grape from eastern France.  Trousseau is primarily blended in other wines and ports, but here in California the is experimental work being done to use the grape for table wine.  The Trousseau leads with rich dark cherry and rich fruit but with just enough tannins to provide a clean, dry finish.  The Trousseau proved to be the most enjoyable, easy-drinking wine, leaving me looking to acquire many more bottles.  #california #seaboldcellars #adroit #stilettoestate FIG 01 - ADROIT 2021 TROUSSEAU SILETTO ESTATE 17 SEPT 2022

ROANOKE VINEYARDS 2019 GABBY’s CABERNET FRANC 18 SEPT 2022

  A few weeks ago, the 2022 futures wines were picked up, which included a three-pack of Roanoke Vineyards Gabby’s Cabernet Franc 2020.  Given that the three-pack is a 2020 vintage, one might wonder why the bottle we opened is a 2019 Gabby (Fig 01), the exact reason remains a bit of a mystery, but one can assume it was a simple mix-up (Fig 02).  The mix-up, notwithstanding the 2019 Gabby, is a fine wine that presented a bright red color with a bramble nose.  The palate is smooth fruit forward, predominantly dark cherry, bright acid, and smooth tannins.  The Gabby is a fine example of a Long Island Cabernet Franc and should be a good indicator of the 2020 Gabby soon to be opened.  #longislandwineries #vineyardviews #wineryvibes #liwine #licharacter #longislandwine #northforkwineries #longislandwinery #longislandnorthfork #northforker #discoverlongisland #topwineries #northforkwinetrail #liwinecountry #liwine #lisustainablewinegrowers #nywinegrapefdn #nofo #roanokevineyards   FIG 01 -

WOLFFER ESTATE VINEYARD FALL CLUB 16 SEPT 2022
