THE KOKNUT HUT Anna Marie Island Florida 14 APR 2022

 We had just landed in Tampa and made out way to Anna Maria Island for a wedding the next day and were looking for a place to get a bite to eat while waiting for our room to be ready.  We happened upon a place called the Koknut Hut, which turned out to be a great find and an even better introduction to the Anna Maria Island lifestyle.  We were greeted by bright, cheery folks that helped us find a perfect seat to take in the expansive of the beach and the Gulf beyond.   Warm tropical breezes rolled in and through the dining area as we sipped fine drinks and a wide selection of small bites.  This place was the perfect start to our mini-vacation on Anna Maria Island and gave us good reason to return.

  Another day, another fine wine.  Today’s wine came from a friend who has a friend Chris Miller the winemaker at Seabold Cellars .   Chris is also currently involved at Adroit , a winery exploring California’s underutilized wine-growing regions.   The wine for today is an Adroit Wines 2021 Trousseau Stiletto Estate (Fig 01).   Today’s tasting is the first time encountering the Trousseau Grape , an ancient grape from eastern France.  Trousseau is primarily blended in other wines and ports, but here in California the is experimental work being done to use the grape for table wine.  The Trousseau leads with rich dark cherry and rich fruit but with just enough tannins to provide a clean, dry finish.  The Trousseau proved to be the most enjoyable, easy-drinking wine, leaving me looking to acquire many more bottles.  #california #seaboldcellars #adroit #stilettoestate FIG 01 - ADROIT 2021 TROUSSEAU SILETTO ESTATE 17 SEPT 2022

ROANOKE VINEYARDS 2019 GABBY’s CABERNET FRANC 18 SEPT 2022

  A few weeks ago, the 2022 futures wines were picked up, which included a three-pack of Roanoke Vineyards Gabby’s Cabernet Franc 2020.  Given that the three-pack is a 2020 vintage, one might wonder why the bottle we opened is a 2019 Gabby (Fig 01), the exact reason remains a bit of a mystery, but one can assume it was a simple mix-up (Fig 02).  The mix-up, notwithstanding the 2019 Gabby, is a fine wine that presented a bright red color with a bramble nose.  The palate is smooth fruit forward, predominantly dark cherry, bright acid, and smooth tannins.  The Gabby is a fine example of a Long Island Cabernet Franc and should be a good indicator of the 2020 Gabby soon to be opened.  #longislandwineries #vineyardviews #wineryvibes #liwine #licharacter #longislandwine #northforkwineries #longislandwinery #longislandnorthfork #northforker #discoverlongisland #topwineries #northforkwinetrail #liwinecountry #liwine #lisustainablewinegrowers #nywinegrapefdn #nofo #roanokevineyards   FIG 01 -

WOLFFER ESTATE VINEYARD FALL CLUB 16 SEPT 2022
