RAPHAEL VINEYARD JUNE CLUB DELIVERY

We were expecting to pick up at Raphael Vineyard & Winery while on the #northforkwinetrail doing all the other pick-ups during the first week of June.  However, the club selection shipped before we hit the road, and it arrived as we returned from the pick-up run.  We have signed up for a six-pack each quarter, and generally, it is four from the current offering and two from a library or reserve connection, and this shipment was no exception (Fig 01).  The first four wines are all current releases from 2019 and include 2019 First Label Sauvignon Blanc, 2019 Pinot Noir, 2019 Cabernet Franc, and 2019 Primo Reserve.  All four are very good, but my personal favorites are the First label Sauvignon Blanc and the 2019 Cabernet Franc.  The Franc is quite good and will be even better in a few years if I can resist drinking it this summer.  From deep within the cellar came two 90+ wines.  The 2013 Cabernet Franc Reserve and the 2013 Petit Verdot.  After almost a decade, both aged remarkably well and present smooth, well-structured tannins while retaining much of their fruit flavors.  Overall a well-balanced 6-pack between daily drinking wines and two fine weekly wines to share with good friends.

  Another day, another fine wine.  Today’s wine came from a friend who has a friend Chris Miller the winemaker at Seabold Cellars .   Chris is also currently involved at Adroit , a winery exploring California’s underutilized wine-growing regions.   The wine for today is an Adroit Wines 2021 Trousseau Stiletto Estate (Fig 01).   Today’s tasting is the first time encountering the Trousseau Grape , an ancient grape from eastern France.  Trousseau is primarily blended in other wines and ports, but here in California the is experimental work being done to use the grape for table wine.  The Trousseau leads with rich dark cherry and rich fruit but with just enough tannins to provide a clean, dry finish.  The Trousseau proved to be the most enjoyable, easy-drinking wine, leaving me looking to acquire many more bottles.  #california #seaboldcellars #adroit #stilettoestate FIG 01 - ADROIT 2021 TROUSSEAU SILETTO ESTATE 17 SEPT 2022

ROANOKE VINEYARDS 2019 GABBY’s CABERNET FRANC 18 SEPT 2022

  A few weeks ago, the 2022 futures wines were picked up, which included a three-pack of Roanoke Vineyards Gabby’s Cabernet Franc 2020.  Given that the three-pack is a 2020 vintage, one might wonder why the bottle we opened is a 2019 Gabby (Fig 01), the exact reason remains a bit of a mystery, but one can assume it was a simple mix-up (Fig 02).  The mix-up, notwithstanding the 2019 Gabby, is a fine wine that presented a bright red color with a bramble nose.  The palate is smooth fruit forward, predominantly dark cherry, bright acid, and smooth tannins.  The Gabby is a fine example of a Long Island Cabernet Franc and should be a good indicator of the 2020 Gabby soon to be opened.  #longislandwineries #vineyardviews #wineryvibes #liwine #licharacter #longislandwine #northforkwineries #longislandwinery #longislandnorthfork #northforker #discoverlongisland #topwineries #northforkwinetrail #liwinecountry #liwine #lisustainablewinegrowers #nywinegrapefdn #nofo #roanokevineyards   FIG 01 -

WOLFFER ESTATE VINEYARD FALL CLUB 16 SEPT 2022
