PELLEGRINI VINEYARD JUNE PICKUP 09 JUNE 2022

The stop was the first in a series of drive-by pickups for the run of 09 June 2022 is Pellegrini Vineyards.  Even with a limited time of about 6 minutes, there was still time to take in the winery’s beauty.  One enters from the west, and a large courtyard opens before you (Fig 01).  To the north, the view is expansive over the vineyards; east is the tank rooms and cellar, south a great lawn rolling down to the main road, and looking to the west is the tasting room.  Today’s pickup included a 2020 Sauvignon Blanc, 2019 Chardonnay (Steel), NV Steak House Red, 2017 Cabernet Franc, 2017 Encore, and a 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon (Fig 02).  NV Steak House Red is a non-vintage, multi-varietal blend that pairs very well with lighter steaks, including non-prime NY strip and filet mignon.  For the heavier steaks, the Encore balances perfectly with a prime rib eye of 28+ day aged porterhouse.  All the wines have been delicious in the past, and this group should be no exception.  Along with the wine are a club newsletter (Fig 03), a list of the wines currently for sale (Fig 04), and a recipe for a dinner to pair with one of the wines that are always worth a try (Fig 05, 06).  Overall and fine selections of wine and an enjoyable club.

  Another day, another fine wine.  Today’s wine came from a friend who has a friend Chris Miller the winemaker at Seabold Cellars .   Chris is also currently involved at Adroit , a winery exploring California’s underutilized wine-growing regions.   The wine for today is an Adroit Wines 2021 Trousseau Stiletto Estate (Fig 01).   Today’s tasting is the first time encountering the Trousseau Grape , an ancient grape from eastern France.  Trousseau is primarily blended in other wines and ports, but here in California the is experimental work being done to use the grape for table wine.  The Trousseau leads with rich dark cherry and rich fruit but with just enough tannins to provide a clean, dry finish.  The Trousseau proved to be the most enjoyable, easy-drinking wine, leaving me looking to acquire many more bottles.  #california #seaboldcellars #adroit #stilettoestate FIG 01 - ADROIT 2021 TROUSSEAU SILETTO ESTATE 17 SEPT 2022

ROANOKE VINEYARDS 2019 GABBY’s CABERNET FRANC 18 SEPT 2022

  A few weeks ago, the 2022 futures wines were picked up, which included a three-pack of Roanoke Vineyards Gabby’s Cabernet Franc 2020.  Given that the three-pack is a 2020 vintage, one might wonder why the bottle we opened is a 2019 Gabby (Fig 01), the exact reason remains a bit of a mystery, but one can assume it was a simple mix-up (Fig 02).  The mix-up, notwithstanding the 2019 Gabby, is a fine wine that presented a bright red color with a bramble nose.  The palate is smooth fruit forward, predominantly dark cherry, bright acid, and smooth tannins.  The Gabby is a fine example of a Long Island Cabernet Franc and should be a good indicator of the 2020 Gabby soon to be opened.  #longislandwineries #vineyardviews #wineryvibes #liwine #licharacter #longislandwine #northforkwineries #longislandwinery #longislandnorthfork #northforker #discoverlongisland #topwineries #northforkwinetrail #liwinecountry #liwine #lisustainablewinegrowers #nywinegrapefdn #nofo #roanokevineyards   FIG 01 -

WOLFFER ESTATE VINEYARD FALL CLUB 16 SEPT 2022
