CHANNING DAUGHTERS JULY 2022 CLUB

Starting off July, the best way is with two wines from Channing Daughters Winery.  Channing Daughters is one of only a few wineries on the South Fork in Bridgehampton (Google Map) just before you reach Wölffer Estate.  Channing Daughters is unique for several reasons, including their commitment to Sustainable Winegrowing and the uncommon grape varietals.   The July selection reflects these unique attributes (Fig 01) and includes a 2017 Chardonnay and a 2019 Dornfelder - Blaufränskisch blend (Fig 02).  The 2017 L’Enfant Sauvage Chardonnay is a rich open barrel fermented Chardonnay that is crisp, smooth, and long finishing.  While being a confirmed red wine person, this Chardonnay could entice me to savor White wines.  The tasting note below includes all the details from Channing about the Chardonnay (Fig 3).  The 2019 Dorn & Blau is one of my favorite varietals.  The Blaufränskisch and its blends are fruit-rich and smooth, with light structured tannins that are fine sipping wines.  The Channing tasting note describes this wine the best, so get it while you can (Fig 04).

  Another day, another fine wine.  Today’s wine came from a friend who has a friend Chris Miller the winemaker at Seabold Cellars .   Chris is also currently involved at Adroit , a winery exploring California’s underutilized wine-growing regions.   The wine for today is an Adroit Wines 2021 Trousseau Stiletto Estate (Fig 01).   Today’s tasting is the first time encountering the Trousseau Grape , an ancient grape from eastern France.  Trousseau is primarily blended in other wines and ports, but here in California the is experimental work being done to use the grape for table wine.  The Trousseau leads with rich dark cherry and rich fruit but with just enough tannins to provide a clean, dry finish.  The Trousseau proved to be the most enjoyable, easy-drinking wine, leaving me looking to acquire many more bottles.  #california #seaboldcellars #adroit #stilettoestate FIG 01 - ADROIT 2021 TROUSSEAU SILETTO ESTATE 17 SEPT 2022

ROANOKE VINEYARDS 2019 GABBY’s CABERNET FRANC 18 SEPT 2022

  A few weeks ago, the 2022 futures wines were picked up, which included a three-pack of Roanoke Vineyards Gabby’s Cabernet Franc 2020.  Given that the three-pack is a 2020 vintage, one might wonder why the bottle we opened is a 2019 Gabby (Fig 01), the exact reason remains a bit of a mystery, but one can assume it was a simple mix-up (Fig 02).  The mix-up, notwithstanding the 2019 Gabby, is a fine wine that presented a bright red color with a bramble nose.  The palate is smooth fruit forward, predominantly dark cherry, bright acid, and smooth tannins.  The Gabby is a fine example of a Long Island Cabernet Franc and should be a good indicator of the 2020 Gabby soon to be opened.  #longislandwineries #vineyardviews #wineryvibes #liwine #licharacter #longislandwine #northforkwineries #longislandwinery #longislandnorthfork #northforker #discoverlongisland #topwineries #northforkwinetrail #liwinecountry #liwine #lisustainablewinegrowers #nywinegrapefdn #nofo #roanokevineyards   FIG 01 -

WOLFFER ESTATE VINEYARD FALL CLUB 16 SEPT 2022
