Our friend
is a close friend of Johnny Sinatra, who is in a band called Ridge
Lane that plays
most of the music from my college days (Fig 14). Ridge Lane was playing last Saturday at the Bayside Clam
Bar & Grill, and going to see Johnny play
prompted a fun night out. I had not
heard of either Ridge Lane or Bayside, so this was a new adventure. Johnny and Ridge Lane were helping to fill up
Bayside as everyone around us knew Johnny or other band members. Ridge Lane was fantastic and rocked the place until
closing with minimal breaks. The Bayside
Clam Bar & Grill is located (Bayside - Google Map Fig 13) inside the East Islip Marina. It would be best if you drove up slowly as
the lawns were filled with dear grazing right up to the edge of the road. There is ample parking, even at about 7:00 PM
on a Saturday. Bayside has a small bar
and kitchen but lots of seating outside with overhead coverage and umbrellas (Fig
01,02,03,04). The view over the water
and the sunset is excellent and worth the visit alone. The team is young, friendly, perky, and
remarkably efficient. The food arrives
quickly and is well prepared.
We all had
lots of small plates and a few entrees. We opened with Blue Point Oysters on the half
shell (Fig 05) that were fresh, plump, and briny. The Oysters were accompanied by the
traditional cocktail sauce and an attractive, thickened lemon sauce (Real
good). Key West Conch Fritters (Fig 06)
were hot, crispy on the outside, moist, and full of Conch on the inside and
paired with spicy sauce. Garlic Parmesan
Chicken wings were piping hot, crispy, and well-seasoned (Fig 07). A good portion of mussels in a garlic and
white wine sauce with bread for dipping came out next and were done perfectly
(Fig 08). The entrees included
Southwestern Scallop (technically a starter), nicely grilled with just the
right amount of spice (Fig 09), and the
Caribbean Mahi accompanied by a good mango salsa and yellow rice (Fig
10). The menu is extensive, so no
problem finding something that each person in your party will like (Fig
11,12). The drinks are well sized and
flowed at the right pace, not pushed on us.
Bayside Clam
Bar & Grill is a perfect place to meet up with friends, listen to good
music, and enjoy good food and drinks.
