EXPEDITION LUNCH AND WINE TASTING 07 APR 2022

The Expedition is the first of the 2022 wine season and focused on lunch at a new (to us) and a tasting at Bedell Cellars.  This time we decided to try out Sound Bistro (Figure 1) as we had driven past it many times before while on the #NorthForkWineTrail and commented on how we should stop each time.  The stop was well worth it as we enjoyed a well-prepared, leisurely-paced meal for almost 1 ½ hour.  The lunch is well worth a full posting and will follow shortly.  We stopped by  Bedell Cellars many years ago (>10), so we were long overdue for a revisit.  Given how far back in the past we had been there, this was effectively a first-time visit.  We worked our way through an extended tasting of seven different wines (Figure 2), each very unique and tasty.  Some wines were outstanding, requiring a revisit and a bottle to take home.  A full write-up will follow shortly as this winery is now on our routine revisit list, and we will need to bring along the family and friends.

ADROIT 2021 TROUSSEAU SILETTO ESTATE 17 SEPT 2022

  Another day, another fine wine.  Today’s wine came from a friend who has a friend Chris Miller the winemaker at Seabold Cellars .   Chris is also currently involved at Adroit , a winery exploring California’s underutilized wine-growing regions.   The wine for today is an Adroit Wines 2021 Trousseau Stiletto Estate (Fig 01).   Today’s tasting is the first time encountering the Trousseau Grape , an ancient grape from eastern France.  Trousseau is primarily blended in other wines and ports, but here in California the is experimental work being done to use the grape for table wine.  The Trousseau leads with rich dark cherry and rich fruit but with just enough tannins to provide a clean, dry finish.  The Trousseau proved to be the most enjoyable, easy-drinking wine, leaving me looking to acquire many more bottles.  #california #seaboldcellars #adroit #stilettoestate FIG 01 - ADROIT 2021 TROUSSEAU SILETTO ESTATE 17 SEPT 2022

ROANOKE VINEYARDS 2019 GABBY’s CABERNET FRANC 18 SEPT 2022

  A few weeks ago, the 2022 futures wines were picked up, which included a three-pack of Roanoke Vineyards Gabby’s Cabernet Franc 2020.  Given that the three-pack is a 2020 vintage, one might wonder why the bottle we opened is a 2019 Gabby (Fig 01), the exact reason remains a bit of a mystery, but one can assume it was a simple mix-up (Fig 02).  The mix-up, notwithstanding the 2019 Gabby, is a fine wine that presented a bright red color with a bramble nose.  The palate is smooth fruit forward, predominantly dark cherry, bright acid, and smooth tannins.  The Gabby is a fine example of a Long Island Cabernet Franc and should be a good indicator of the 2020 Gabby soon to be opened.  #longislandwineries #vineyardviews #wineryvibes #liwine #licharacter #longislandwine #northforkwineries #longislandwinery #longislandnorthfork #northforker #discoverlongisland #topwineries #northforkwinetrail #liwinecountry #liwine #lisustainablewinegrowers #nywinegrapefdn #nofo #roanokevineyards   FIG 01 -

WOLFFER ESTATE VINEYARD FALL CLUB 16 SEPT 2022
