WÖLFFER ESTATE 2020 DIOSA LATE HARVEST WHITE TABLE WINE 30 MAR 2022

A disclaimer first that neither Jo nor I are big fans of sweet wines, but I do sometimes enjoy a delicious dessert wine.  The Wölffer Estate2020 Diosa Late Harvest White Table Wine is a fantastic dessert wine, not what I would consider a White Table Wine.  Last year, the wine arrived in our inventory as part of the Wölffer Estate December Club shipment.  As we are not significant sweet wine drinkers, we regifted the Diosa to our Niece & Nephew, who are sweet wine aficionados.  The Diosa is a home run, and I received a few photos and comments about the wine (Figure 1).   Kelly paired the wine with a block of Brei but without the Fig compote (Figure 2).   Kelly’s comments were straightforward: “I couldn’t find fig, but at least I had brie.  TJ and I loved this.  Very sweet, the apricot really kicks you in the face, and then the honey takes over in the end.  Pleasant surprise definitely needed vanilla ice cream for the autumn, maybe a sorbet in the warmer seasons.”  Wölffer’s Diosa was a home run, and I understand why, as I have recently tasted this wine.  Diosa’s nose opens with Honeysuckle, stone fruit, and floral notes.  The coloring is reminiscent of fresh field golden honey and is viscous in the glass.  Mouthfeel is also rich and lingering; additionally, the palate is greeted with bright acidity, notes of Apricots, and Mango Marmalade.

The wine is blended from Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Vignoles[1].  The Diosa is produced from overripe fruit and in an Ice Wine style producing wonderful nectar well worth holding in the cellar for years to come.  All the technical details of this wine from the Wolffer technical data sheet are attached in figure 3.

Based on the considered opinion of a biased lover of dry wines, this is a great wine and well worth holding in the home portfolio.

[1] Vignoles – Believed to be a Native American - French hybrid but recent DNA analysis puts this claim question.  The grape remains a common Finger Lakes region grape.  See Wikipedia-Vignoles
