MID-MARCH LUNCH PICKUP and TASTINGS 18 MAR 2022

Time for the next round of pickups, and we were able to add in lunch and tasting at two new to us places.  Given that we were adding in at least one full tasting at a first visit winery, we decided to have a large lunch first to help buffer all the fine wine to follow.  So the first Stop was the Cooperage Inn for lunch, followed by pickups at Roanoke Vineyards, Lieb Cellars, Sparkling Pointe, Suhru Wines, and Terra Vite Winery & Vineyard (Figure 1). 

In the past, we have stopped at the Cooperage inn but only to use their outside pickup window for NOFO Pot Pies (Figure 2).  We spent over an hour at lunch and then picked up five Pot Pies for friends and Family.  Lunch was fantastic, requiring a separate posting at the liwinedad-cooperage inn to discuss how enjoyable the lunch was. 

Roanoke Vineyards, Lieb Cellars, and Sparkling Point were our classic drive-by pickups, except we also picked up for our friends at Roanoke and Sparkling Pointe, which quickly fill the SUV.  Each will have its posting at liwinedad-Roanoke, liwinedad-Lieb, liwinedad-Sparkling Pointe to outline all the wines we retrieved on this outing.

Next was a scheduled full tasting at Suhru Wines (Figure 3).  It was fortunate that Jo was driving as the simple, quick tasting expanded into two four glass flights of one red and one white wine from the Suhru Portfolio and soon posting at liwinedad-Suhru.  Lastly was a pickup and unscheduled tasting at liwinedad-Terra Vite.  We dropped by for the pickup but then discussed the new wine just bottled, so of course, we needed to try it, and a fine sample it was, so we added on to the club pick up as if we did not already have enough wine.

We came home pleasantly stuffed, well satiated, with four-pot pies, two dessert pies, four cans of wine, and 34 bottles, all packed into the back of the SUV.  Nevertheless, we are already looking forward to the April pickups.

  Another day, another fine wine.  Today’s wine came from a friend who has a friend Chris Miller the winemaker at Seabold Cellars .   Chris is also currently involved at Adroit , a winery exploring California’s underutilized wine-growing regions.   The wine for today is an Adroit Wines 2021 Trousseau Stiletto Estate (Fig 01).   Today’s tasting is the first time encountering the Trousseau Grape , an ancient grape from eastern France.  Trousseau is primarily blended in other wines and ports, but here in California the is experimental work being done to use the grape for table wine.  The Trousseau leads with rich dark cherry and rich fruit but with just enough tannins to provide a clean, dry finish.  The Trousseau proved to be the most enjoyable, easy-drinking wine, leaving me looking to acquire many more bottles.  #california #seaboldcellars #adroit #stilettoestate FIG 01 - ADROIT 2021 TROUSSEAU SILETTO ESTATE 17 SEPT 2022

ROANOKE VINEYARDS 2019 GABBY’s CABERNET FRANC 18 SEPT 2022

  A few weeks ago, the 2022 futures wines were picked up, which included a three-pack of Roanoke Vineyards Gabby’s Cabernet Franc 2020.  Given that the three-pack is a 2020 vintage, one might wonder why the bottle we opened is a 2019 Gabby (Fig 01), the exact reason remains a bit of a mystery, but one can assume it was a simple mix-up (Fig 02).  The mix-up, notwithstanding the 2019 Gabby, is a fine wine that presented a bright red color with a bramble nose.  The palate is smooth fruit forward, predominantly dark cherry, bright acid, and smooth tannins.  The Gabby is a fine example of a Long Island Cabernet Franc and should be a good indicator of the 2020 Gabby soon to be opened.  #longislandwineries #vineyardviews #wineryvibes #liwine #licharacter #longislandwine #northforkwineries #longislandwinery #longislandnorthfork #northforker #discoverlongisland #topwineries #northforkwinetrail #liwinecountry #liwine #lisustainablewinegrowers #nywinegrapefdn #nofo #roanokevineyards   FIG 01 -

WOLFFER ESTATE VINEYARD FALL CLUB 16 SEPT 2022
