CHANNING DAUGHTERS 2020 SYRAH – MUDD WEST VINEYARD 22 MAR 2022

The first wine to explore from the Channing Daughters Vineyard - March club Selection is the 2020 Syrah (Figure 1).  The Channing Syrah is 100% Syrah fruit from the Mudd West Vineyard, home to many good long island wines.  The wine is almost opaque dark red to purple color, dark fringe, and medium legs in the glass.  

Opening on the nose with intense notes of Blueberry, Boysenberry, Black plum, a subtle hint of old leather and clove combine beautifully to greet the taster.  The feel is very full with noticeable tannins and very bright acid in the mouth.  On the palate, fruit comes forward with red plum and cherry.  However, the fruit expression shifts slowly as the finish lingers to a touch of black pepper, some graphite, and minerality.  

Attached in Figure 2 are the tasting notes from Channing Daughters.  This wine paired well with our steak dinner and is also a fine sipping wine.  We will be grabbing a few more bottles to rest in the cellar for a few more years and enjoying at the backyard Bar-B-Que sometime after 2024.

  Another day, another fine wine.  Today’s wine came from a friend who has a friend Chris Miller the winemaker at Seabold Cellars .   Chris is also currently involved at Adroit , a winery exploring California’s underutilized wine-growing regions.   The wine for today is an Adroit Wines 2021 Trousseau Stiletto Estate (Fig 01).   Today’s tasting is the first time encountering the Trousseau Grape , an ancient grape from eastern France.  Trousseau is primarily blended in other wines and ports, but here in California the is experimental work being done to use the grape for table wine.  The Trousseau leads with rich dark cherry and rich fruit but with just enough tannins to provide a clean, dry finish.  The Trousseau proved to be the most enjoyable, easy-drinking wine, leaving me looking to acquire many more bottles.  #california #seaboldcellars #adroit #stilettoestate FIG 01 - ADROIT 2021 TROUSSEAU SILETTO ESTATE 17 SEPT 2022

ROANOKE VINEYARDS 2019 GABBY’s CABERNET FRANC 18 SEPT 2022

  A few weeks ago, the 2022 futures wines were picked up, which included a three-pack of Roanoke Vineyards Gabby’s Cabernet Franc 2020.  Given that the three-pack is a 2020 vintage, one might wonder why the bottle we opened is a 2019 Gabby (Fig 01), the exact reason remains a bit of a mystery, but one can assume it was a simple mix-up (Fig 02).  The mix-up, notwithstanding the 2019 Gabby, is a fine wine that presented a bright red color with a bramble nose.  The palate is smooth fruit forward, predominantly dark cherry, bright acid, and smooth tannins.  The Gabby is a fine example of a Long Island Cabernet Franc and should be a good indicator of the 2020 Gabby soon to be opened.  #longislandwineries #vineyardviews #wineryvibes #liwine #licharacter #longislandwine #northforkwineries #longislandwinery #longislandnorthfork #northforker #discoverlongisland #topwineries #northforkwinetrail #liwinecountry #liwine #lisustainablewinegrowers #nywinegrapefdn #nofo #roanokevineyards   FIG 01 -

WOLFFER ESTATE VINEYARD FALL CLUB 16 SEPT 2022
