WÖLFFER ESTATE 2019 MALBEC CELLAR SERIES
We are
working through the last club pick-up run and still have dozens more wines to
try. Today we went for the Wölffer Estate 2019
Malbec Cellar Series. Malbec’s
origin is from the southwest of France and is better known as Côt. However, almost 75%
of the world’s Malbec comes from the Mendoza region in Argentina. The profile of the wine is vastly different
between the regions, and it will be interesting to see how close Long Island is
to one of these regions. The 2019 Malbec
shows a dark, dense ruby red color, dark rim, and slender legs (Figure 1). Notes of Raspberries, dry leaves, and a hit
of old leather all come forward on the nose. The palate is tart fruit flavors, including
plum and cherry. The Tannins and medium
to light, well-balanced acidity, a pleasant lingering finish contribute to a
glass of fine wine. The addition of Merlot
does show through adding to the long finish.
Overall, this wine is the perfect sipping wine with friends and leans
closer to a French expression of Malbec.
The 2019 Malbec is well worth several revisits. As is often the case with a Wölffer wine, the
estate does provide detailed technical
data on the wine, which is attached below (Figure 2).
