START OF THE FEBRUARY WINE PICKUPS 11 FEB 2022
February is
a short month with many wineries to get to, so we were off to a quick start. Today’s run was to Kontokosta winery, Roanoke Vineyard, and Cooperage Inn NOFO Pot Pies.
Our custom starts at the furthest winery
and works our way back home, so our first stop is the Kontokosta winery. Kontokosta was a 3-bottle pickup consisting of
a 2017 Cabernet Franc Reserve, 2016 Merlot, and a 2020 Dry Riesling (Figure 1). In keeping with the custom of some Long Island
wineries, Kontokosta provides a technical data sheet on the wine attached below
(Figure 2), and based on that information; the wines should be quite good. The next stop was Roanoke Vineyards to pick up
Roanoke’s future offering samples (full bottles). We needed to pick them and taste them quickly
as the pre-order period was opening at the end of the week. Four of the five bottles are packaged in wood
cases which we will reuse as wall covering in the new wine cellar (Figure
3). The wines included 2020 The Hill,
2020 Lightning Fields, 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2020 The Poet, and 2020 Gabby’s
Cabernet Franc. Roanoke also provides a
description of each attached here (Figure 4,5), and we have scheduled a tasting
party this weekend with some friends and family to help us decide which ones to
order. Lastly, a non-winery stop at the
Cooperage Inn NOFO Pot Pies to pick some up.
Finding the Pot pies came about in a unique way. Jo was at her gym when News12 did a
segment on NOFO pot pies, so of course, we need to try some. We pick up a large, short rib Potpie for the
upcoming tasting party and 5 Chicken Pot Pies for the folks at the Gym (Figure 6);
tasting results to follow. Now on to the
tasting party and ordering some more wine.
