JAMESPORT 2019 EAST END CABERNET FRANC

Jamesport Vineyards 2019 East End Cabernet Franc wine arrived in late December as part of our club shipments.  The traditional view of wines with a screw top as easy-going, fun wines great for a larger gathering.  On the other hand, cork bottles of wine expect cellaring, then shared with friends on a quiet evening.  Notwithstanding, the cork versus screw top debate, the Jamesport Cabernet Franc (Figure 1) presented itself as an easy, fun wine. 

The color was clear ruby red, bright red on the fringe, with no legs.  The nose is rich in fruit with maybe a hint of vanilla.  Noticeable also was the raspberry and some Pyrazine notes (think Herbaceous – Bell Peppers).  The mouthfeel is light, coating the palate quickly and bursting forward with fruit.  Sour cherry is most dominant on the palate, with strawberry and plum.  The acidity is structured and well represented, as are the tannins.  Overall, this is an easy-drinking young wine that will pair well with tomato-based sauces as well as a Smokey vinegar-based Bar-B-Que sauce.  It is a stock-up wine, best served lightly chilled at a backyard BBQ party.

  Another day, another fine wine.  Today’s wine came from a friend who has a friend Chris Miller the winemaker at Seabold Cellars .   Chris is also currently involved at Adroit , a winery exploring California’s underutilized wine-growing regions.   The wine for today is an Adroit Wines 2021 Trousseau Stiletto Estate (Fig 01).   Today’s tasting is the first time encountering the Trousseau Grape , an ancient grape from eastern France.  Trousseau is primarily blended in other wines and ports, but here in California the is experimental work being done to use the grape for table wine.  The Trousseau leads with rich dark cherry and rich fruit but with just enough tannins to provide a clean, dry finish.  The Trousseau proved to be the most enjoyable, easy-drinking wine, leaving me looking to acquire many more bottles.  #california #seaboldcellars #adroit #stilettoestate FIG 01 - ADROIT 2021 TROUSSEAU SILETTO ESTATE 17 SEPT 2022

ROANOKE VINEYARDS 2019 GABBY’s CABERNET FRANC 18 SEPT 2022

  A few weeks ago, the 2022 futures wines were picked up, which included a three-pack of Roanoke Vineyards Gabby’s Cabernet Franc 2020.  Given that the three-pack is a 2020 vintage, one might wonder why the bottle we opened is a 2019 Gabby (Fig 01), the exact reason remains a bit of a mystery, but one can assume it was a simple mix-up (Fig 02).  The mix-up, notwithstanding the 2019 Gabby, is a fine wine that presented a bright red color with a bramble nose.  The palate is smooth fruit forward, predominantly dark cherry, bright acid, and smooth tannins.  The Gabby is a fine example of a Long Island Cabernet Franc and should be a good indicator of the 2020 Gabby soon to be opened.  #longislandwineries #vineyardviews #wineryvibes #liwine #licharacter #longislandwine #northforkwineries #longislandwinery #longislandnorthfork #northforker #discoverlongisland #topwineries #northforkwinetrail #liwinecountry #liwine #lisustainablewinegrowers #nywinegrapefdn #nofo #roanokevineyards   FIG 01 -

WOLFFER ESTATE VINEYARD FALL CLUB 16 SEPT 2022
