SPARKLING POINTE 2017 BRUT 31 DEC 2021

As pointed out in the last posting, the old folks were settling in for a quiet night paring some sparkling wine and small plates for the evening when the plans changed.  We switched the Wölffer 2018 Noblesse Oblige from paring with food to an aperitif and pre-gaming drink before an outstanding dinner at Molto Bene.  Having returned very stuffed from that dinner, we opened a Sparkling Pointe Vineyards 2017 Brut (Figure 1) as a nightcap.  As expected, Gilles Martin and the Sparkling Pointe team did not disappoint.  The Brut was served well chilled (46⁰F) in daily use flute glasses.  The color is a shimmering light golden color with virtually no opacity.  When poured, a fine ebullient white froth formed for a bit that then settled to a few streams of the tiniest bubbles.   The nose is much like the Wölffer 2018 Noblesse Oblige leading with Orchard fruits (Pears and very ripe Apples), but what set it apart was the notes of lemon and toast.  The palate was greeted with a full mouth mousse.  The flavors of Brioche, Floral and Flinty minerality all came forward and were perfectly balanced by some well-structured acidity.  Overall, the easy-sipping sparkling wine will pair well with all food and result in the count, not the number of glasses but rather the number of bottles one would finish in a night with friends and family.

I am looking forward to the Magnum size the next time.  Attached below are the technical data and winemakers notes from the Sparkling Pointe web page for your continued exploration of the wine.

Winemaker Notes

With a bright golden color, this lively wine expresses fresh aromas of
Meyer Lemon, red apple, and ripe pear.  Vibrant acidity and a persistent effervescence are framed by firm notes of citrus zest and a touch of brioche.  On the palate, a symphony of tiny bubbles contributes to a generous mousse.  Elegant and structured, its delicate floral and flinty notes add to its vinous expression, a model of harmony.
