SANNINO 2017 MERLOT

A few nights ago, a friend asked what we would do with all the wine we had recently acquired; drink it, is the short answer.  Life is too short not to enjoy good wine with family and friends, so stop in and share a bottle if in the neighborhood.  So, we currently have a friend with us, which makes for an excellent excuse to enjoy some more wine.  First up was a Sannino Vineyard  2017 Merlot (Figure 1).  The color is dark and rich, bright red at the fringes, and a somewhat opaque body—the wine presented with a delicate nose showing notes of blackberries and raspberries.  The taste fills the mouth with dark fruit and very tart cherries.  The acid is very present, adding to the crispness.  The Merlot has been resting in the cellar; the tannins were smoother than expected and, overall, a delightful wine.  One thing we paired it with cast iron pan-seared medallions of pork tenderloin.  A simple salad complimented the medallions, and the wine rounded out the meal perfectly, and we will be revisiting this Merlot.

  Another day, another fine wine.  Today’s wine came from a friend who has a friend Chris Miller the winemaker at Seabold Cellars .   Chris is also currently involved at Adroit , a winery exploring California’s underutilized wine-growing regions.   The wine for today is an Adroit Wines 2021 Trousseau Stiletto Estate (Fig 01).   Today’s tasting is the first time encountering the Trousseau Grape , an ancient grape from eastern France.  Trousseau is primarily blended in other wines and ports, but here in California the is experimental work being done to use the grape for table wine.  The Trousseau leads with rich dark cherry and rich fruit but with just enough tannins to provide a clean, dry finish.  The Trousseau proved to be the most enjoyable, easy-drinking wine, leaving me looking to acquire many more bottles.  #california #seaboldcellars #adroit #stilettoestate FIG 01 - ADROIT 2021 TROUSSEAU SILETTO ESTATE 17 SEPT 2022

ROANOKE VINEYARDS 2019 GABBY’s CABERNET FRANC 18 SEPT 2022

  A few weeks ago, the 2022 futures wines were picked up, which included a three-pack of Roanoke Vineyards Gabby’s Cabernet Franc 2020.  Given that the three-pack is a 2020 vintage, one might wonder why the bottle we opened is a 2019 Gabby (Fig 01), the exact reason remains a bit of a mystery, but one can assume it was a simple mix-up (Fig 02).  The mix-up, notwithstanding the 2019 Gabby, is a fine wine that presented a bright red color with a bramble nose.  The palate is smooth fruit forward, predominantly dark cherry, bright acid, and smooth tannins.  The Gabby is a fine example of a Long Island Cabernet Franc and should be a good indicator of the 2020 Gabby soon to be opened.  #longislandwineries #vineyardviews #wineryvibes #liwine #licharacter #longislandwine #northforkwineries #longislandwinery #longislandnorthfork #northforker #discoverlongisland #topwineries #northforkwinetrail #liwinecountry #liwine #lisustainablewinegrowers #nywinegrapefdn #nofo #roanokevineyards   FIG 01 -

WOLFFER ESTATE VINEYARD FALL CLUB 16 SEPT 2022
