Salt Shack at Cedar Beach Babylon 27 July 2021

Image
The salt shack is a seaside beach restaurant with outstanding views, live entertainment, and excellent food.   Most beach restaurants serve up greasy overpriced hamburgers and the like, but Salt Shack is a welcome exception.   The menu offers up all the traditional beach food and then some.   Salt Shack also includes a good selection for kids and platters to share at a table.   The drink and cocktail list are long and quite good again at a fair price.   The event calendar is pack full of live music almost every day.   Parking is free after 5:00 PM (this is a town beach).   Today Jo had the Bacon cheeseburger and I, a large Grilled chicken Caesar Salad.   The cheeseburger arrived nestled on a soft bun and not the least bit soggy with lettuce, tomato.   The Grilled Chicken Caesar was a massive bowl of fresh, crisp romaine lettuce topped with a perfectly grilled whole chicken Breast.   The dressing was stock but rich, tangy, creamy, and very flavorful.   Drinks consisted of Margaritas

Cedar Beach & Volleyball 27 July 2021

Image
My first visit to Cedar Beach In Babylon this week was fantastic and not our last.  The beach is open to all with free parking after 5:00 PM.  The "kids" were here for their volleyball game, and we tagged along to watch them play.  The beach is extensive with a long run down to the water and very clean.  The beach has all the traditional activities and over 60 Volleyball courts (we were at # 62 today).  There is an expansive restaurant called Salt Shack with reasonably priced seaside food, Cocktails, and live entertainment near the entrance to the beach. There will be a separate post just for the restaurant.  The beach is typical of one of the Long Islands' fine beaches and well worth the visit.  Even without a scheduled volleyball game, we will be returning for the sun, surf, and dinner.  CEDAR BEACH DUNE VIEW CEDAR BEACH OCEAN VIEW PART OF THE MIXED NUTS VOLLEY BALL TEAM AT CEDAR BEACH

Peconic Bay First Visit 22 July 2021

Image
After an eight-year hiatus, Peconic Bay Vineyards has returned this year and is off to a great start.  Thursday was a perfect day for exploring a new winery, warm, sunny, dry, with an open sky, great for sitting, relaxing on a patio, sipping wine, and taking in the views of the vines. The Peconic Bay vineyard location is 31320 Main Road (Southside) in Cutchogue, just before Lenz and Raphael’s, to name but a few.   The entrance is a gravel driveway and parking lot, leading to a classic barn [1], with the entrance around the side behind the lattice fence.  The grounds are both striking and peaceful at the same time.  The patio is extensive, with many tables, umbrellas, and fire pits to choose from [2].  All the tables have sweeping views of the vineyards and the open field [3] [4] [5].  Jo and I picked a table facing south overlooking the field and the vines.  The indoor tasting room is large, airy, bright, and inviting, with many seats at the bar and a few two-person café style table

SALT & LOFT 15 JULY 2021

Image
Last week we ventured out to a free concert at the West Hampton Beach Village Green Gazebo and enjoyed the music of The Sound Symphony .  The concert was outstanding with more details at liwinedad .  Before the concert, we walked the village and happened upon a restaurant called the Salt & Loft .  Salt & Loft is the classic local jewel well known to the locals but new to the Long Island community.  The restaurant is very open, bright, and airy, with many inside and outside tables.  The Salt & Loft location is convenient, directly across from the West Hampton Beach Village Green and a short walk to a municipal parking lot. The menu [1] is Hamptons style but moderately priced.  We enjoyed a leisurely dinner as we worked our way through starters and mains, skipping desserts that looked quite good, but we were just too full, from all courses, next time we will save some space. For openers, Jo and I had the Zucchini Chips [2] and the Big Eye Tuna Tartar [3].   The Zucchini ‘c

Expedition to Westhampton Beach 15 July 2021

We were long overdue for a field trip to enjoy one of the many free things on Long Island.  Today we took a trip out to West Hampton Beach Village Green Gazebo to see a free concert.  This concert: is one in a series of about ten free concerts hosted by the Westhampton Beach (WHB) cultural consortium as part of their 32 nd annual Gazebo Concert Series.  In the spirit of transparency and full discloser, one of the reasons to attend this concert was to watch our son’s girlfriend Noelle’s performance.   The Sound Symphony was in fine form and entertained a large crowd for well over an hour; I wish they could have played much longer.  As we have not been to WHB in quite some time, we arrive early and stroll through the village before settling in at Salt & Loft for a pre-concert dinner.  The meal was outstanding and worthy of a separate blog posting very soon. Below are a few pictures and clips of the beautiful music.  The weather cooperated, and this was a fine outing, as we loo

Rose Hill Vineyards June 2021

Image
Today is our first visit to Rose Hill Vineyards , and we explored the vineyards, enjoyed a tasting flight, and made a lunch out of their small plate's menu.  Rose hill was magnificent overall so that we will be returning.  Rose hill Vineyards is a new name to well-established winery Shinn Estates. Unfortunately, Jo and I did not have a chance to visit Shinn estates before the changeover, so we cannot highlight the differences but explored Rose Hill as a completely new winery.   The vineyard is easy to find as it is just down the road from Lieb Cellars on Oregon road.  The view over the vineyard is striking, peaceful, and relaxing [1]. There are many seating options, including an inside tasting room, a Patio (with massive umbrellas) [2] [4] [6] [9], and on the lawn under large covering sails [3] [5].   The inside tasting room is spacious, with a bar [20], shop [12], tables, and overstuffed couches to choose from [8].   The tasting room is festooned with many wine bottles and is
