MUDDY RUDDER LUNCH 04 JUN 2021
On a rare occasion, we venture off Long Island, and last week we, with a few friends, decide to explore Maine for a 3-day excursion. One place we stopped was the Muddy Rudder in Yarmouth ME. From the outside, the restaurant presents the quintessential quaint Maine restaurant on a river look and feel [1]. Inside, the dining spaces both inside and out are bright open, and airy. The tables all have an unobstructed view of the river and meadow beyond, including deer strolling.
The menu is extensive,
with many appetizers, seafood, chicken, and meat dishes to select from the main
course and sides. Of particular note was the Lobster Egg Rolls, packed with
lobster and plated with a sweet chili lime dipping sauce. The New England Clam
chowder was also a winner, thick creamy and packed with clams.
For the mains
[2], we had the Lobster Croissant and side Caesar, the baked Haddock with a
side of Lobster Mac N cheese, a large bowl of mussels, and an “Easy Lobster”
with rudder beans and coleslaw.
The Lobster
Croissant came packed with ¼ Lb. of sweet, tender lobster meat nestled on a bed
of lettuce, tomato, snug in a flaky croissant. The mussels were enormous, steamed to
perfection in a wine, garlic, onion, and roast tomato broth with lots of
dipping bread. The baked Haddock was
tender, juicy, and flaky cover with just the right amount of seasoned toasted breadcrumbs
and a dash of Lobster sauce. The Lobster Mac N Cheese side is rich creamy and
chocked full of Lobster meat. Lastly,
the traditional 1-1/2 Lb. Lobster cooked, ideally removed from the shell and
present with a side of rudder bean. The
beans were the classic New England baked beans with a twist of adding ground
meat creating a New England style chill without the heat, delicious, and one I
need to steal the recipe for my next Seafood extravaganza at home.
We paired
the appetizers and mains with two bottles of a fine New Zealand Marlborough
district Oyster Bay winery Sauvignon Blanc.
In summary,
this was a wonderful leisurely lunch at both an aesthetically and epicurean,
appealing restaurant that I am looking forward to returning to many more
times.
That's not too far from the finest lobster rolls we've ever had(to_date) in Wiscasset. Reds Eats is a worthy destination on any road trip to Maine.
ReplyDeleteWill need to find the place on the next trip up there
