Dinner @Home 21 MAY 2021
While Jo and often enjoy a good dinner at the local restaurants, nothing beats a simple meal for two at home. Today was that day. We opted for a selection of fresh seafood and a bottle of simple white wine.
For the wine,
we chose a Bridge Lane (Lieb) 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon [1]. Bridge Lane is a second label in the Lieb
Cellars family. The second label, in this case, should not
imply the second best. The Bridge Lane
wines are a fun, approachable set of wines, not for savoring with a friend but for
sharing with a group of friends, such as our last family party where we
polished off six bottles of the Cabernet Sauvignon alone. The wine packaging is for fun, available in
cans, screw-top bottles, boxes, and even kegs for the big gatherings. The
Cabernet Sauvignon is light in color, with aromas of citrus fruits and
herbaceous notes. The flavor is crisp (good
acid) with subtle Grapefruit, Citrus, and a hint of grass notes with moderate
alcohol (12% ABV). My personal
preference is to serve this wine cold (38⁰F).
Overall, it is reminiscent of a New Zealand Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc,
a bit less acid, a perfect wine to pair with Oysters and other Seafood.
The seafood
came from New Wave Seaford, who, with about 30 minutes' notice,
shuck two dozen Oysters [2] and a slab of Swordfish for grilling. The oysters were authentic Blue Point oysters
from the waters off of Fire Island. The oysters were plump, tender, cleanly
shucked with just the right balance of brininess and minerality. A piquant Mignonette from New Wave complimented
The Blue Points Oysters.
We seared
the Swordfish [4] on the outdoor kitchen[3] bar-b-que searing station at about
1800⁰F, giving it a nice char while keeping the inside moist.
For Jo, we
paired the Swordfish[5] with skirt steak[6] for a unique twist on the classic
surf and turf with a small Caesar salad[7]. Additionally, I had the Italian Seafood
salad again from New Wave. In summary,
a nice dinner for two on a quiet late spring Friday night.
