Terra Vite Pick Up, Meet & Greet 24 APR 2021

Terra Vite (250 Manor Lane in Jamesport )is a new winery in a friendly old place as the new team takes over this spring.  Formally Diliberto's was a quaint Italian place complete with a great pizza oven, and Sal, the owner wandering through the tasting room and patio singing excerpts from various operas. The tasting room was themed as a small Italian bistro, including a few risqué frescos on the walls.  Maybe that is why Diliberto's was an adult-only place.  The wine for this pickup was still labeled Diliberto's and included their 2016 Barrel Fermented Chardonnay, a 2015 Merlot, and a 2015 Tre Red Blend.  The Chardonnay is a bit crisper than the traditional new French oak-aged wine that I was expecting but is much more aligned to my tastes in Chardonnay.  The Merlot is a classic Long Island version not over-oaked with lots of dark fruit upfront and a lingering finish.  The Tre Blend is a blend of Merlot (65%), Cabernet Sauvignon (20%) and Cabernet Franc (15%). The new French oak aging is far more noticeable and compliments the fruit and rich tannins for a long finish. In addition, for Diliberto's wine club members, that was a chance to meet the new owners(Jacqui & Greg Goodale) and family.  Sister Jessy Fusco, a certified sommelier, will be joining as the Operations Manager and educator. It was great to meet and chat with them as they are a young, warm, and friendly bunch of folks enthusiastic about their new adventure.  They have already started to put their imprint on the place as they revamp the tasting room, update the food menu and look to add wine classes to the list of events at the winery. I suspect that given the number of their children and their friends' children running about, they will allow kids to join their parents. Terra Vite (Earth & Vine) is looking to formally open at the end of May with extended days to include Wednesdays and Thursdays.   Another day, another fine wine.  Today’s wine came from a friend who has a friend Chris Miller the winemaker at Seabold Cellars .   Chris is also currently involved at Adroit , a winery exploring California’s underutilized wine-growing regions.   The wine for today is an Adroit Wines 2021 Trousseau Stiletto Estate (Fig 01).   Today’s tasting is the first time encountering the Trousseau Grape , an ancient grape from eastern France.  Trousseau is primarily blended in other wines and ports, but here in California the is experimental work being done to use the grape for table wine.  The Trousseau leads with rich dark cherry and rich fruit but with just enough tannins to provide a clean, dry finish.  The Trousseau proved to be the most enjoyable, easy-drinking wine, leaving me looking to acquire many more bottles.  #california #seaboldcellars #adroit #stilettoestate FIG 01 - ADROIT 2021 TROUSSEAU SILETTO ESTATE 17 SEPT 2022

ROANOKE VINEYARDS 2019 GABBY’s CABERNET FRANC 18 SEPT 2022

  A few weeks ago, the 2022 futures wines were picked up, which included a three-pack of Roanoke Vineyards Gabby’s Cabernet Franc 2020.  Given that the three-pack is a 2020 vintage, one might wonder why the bottle we opened is a 2019 Gabby (Fig 01), the exact reason remains a bit of a mystery, but one can assume it was a simple mix-up (Fig 02).  The mix-up, notwithstanding the 2019 Gabby, is a fine wine that presented a bright red color with a bramble nose.  The palate is smooth fruit forward, predominantly dark cherry, bright acid, and smooth tannins.  The Gabby is a fine example of a Long Island Cabernet Franc and should be a good indicator of the 2020 Gabby soon to be opened.  #longislandwineries #vineyardviews #wineryvibes #liwine #licharacter #longislandwine #northforkwineries #longislandwinery #longislandnorthfork #northforker #discoverlongisland #topwineries #northforkwinetrail #liwinecountry #liwine #lisustainablewinegrowers #nywinegrapefdn #nofo #roanokevineyards   FIG 01 -

WOLFFER ESTATE VINEYARD FALL CLUB 16 SEPT 2022
