New Wave Seafood redux 29 APR 2021

We returned, and New wave is upholding their 5-star local seafood place.  This time we brought a friend and explored all new items.  The openers were Caesar Salad, Lobster Bisque, and Italian Seafood Platter.  The Caesar salad was a classic with crisp, very flavorful croutons, lots of shaved cheese, creamy, flavorful dressing, and crisp romaine lettuce. The Lobster bisque was rich, creamy, and chuck full of lobster meat.  The Italian seafood platter is outstanding, arriving tableside with a generous portion of Shrimp, Calamari, and Scungilli with olives, peppers and finished with a red wine vinaigrette.  Plated with the seafood was a bean salad including chickpeas, kidney beans, and corn, a meal in its self.  For the mains, we had Lobster stuffed ravioli, Blackened Swordfish, and crab legs.  The crab legs were cooked to perfection, the swordfish tender, moist, and bursting with Cajun flavor.  The Lobster Raviolis were large squid ink striped ravioli covered in vodka sauce. Yet again, a great meal.

  Another day, another fine wine.  Today’s wine came from a friend who has a friend Chris Miller the winemaker at Seabold Cellars .   Chris is also currently involved at Adroit , a winery exploring California’s underutilized wine-growing regions.   The wine for today is an Adroit Wines 2021 Trousseau Stiletto Estate (Fig 01).   Today’s tasting is the first time encountering the Trousseau Grape , an ancient grape from eastern France.  Trousseau is primarily blended in other wines and ports, but here in California the is experimental work being done to use the grape for table wine.  The Trousseau leads with rich dark cherry and rich fruit but with just enough tannins to provide a clean, dry finish.  The Trousseau proved to be the most enjoyable, easy-drinking wine, leaving me looking to acquire many more bottles.  #california #seaboldcellars #adroit #stilettoestate FIG 01 - ADROIT 2021 TROUSSEAU SILETTO ESTATE 17 SEPT 2022

ROANOKE VINEYARDS 2019 GABBY’s CABERNET FRANC 18 SEPT 2022

  A few weeks ago, the 2022 futures wines were picked up, which included a three-pack of Roanoke Vineyards Gabby’s Cabernet Franc 2020.  Given that the three-pack is a 2020 vintage, one might wonder why the bottle we opened is a 2019 Gabby (Fig 01), the exact reason remains a bit of a mystery, but one can assume it was a simple mix-up (Fig 02).  The mix-up, notwithstanding the 2019 Gabby, is a fine wine that presented a bright red color with a bramble nose.  The palate is smooth fruit forward, predominantly dark cherry, bright acid, and smooth tannins.  The Gabby is a fine example of a Long Island Cabernet Franc and should be a good indicator of the 2020 Gabby soon to be opened.  #longislandwineries #vineyardviews #wineryvibes #liwine #licharacter #longislandwine #northforkwineries #longislandwinery #longislandnorthfork #northforker #discoverlongisland #topwineries #northforkwinetrail #liwinecountry #liwine #lisustainablewinegrowers #nywinegrapefdn #nofo #roanokevineyards   FIG 01 -

WOLFFER ESTATE VINEYARD FALL CLUB 16 SEPT 2022
