19 MAR 2021 Wine Pick Up at Sparkling Pointe, Roanoke, and Sannino
Friday 19 Mar 2021 was round two of the late winter early spring pick-ups from some wine clubs. The weather was fine, overcast with a bit of a chill in the air in keeping with the season. The trip planning called for a quick pick-up run without any tastings or lunch. We were heading to the kids' house for dinner after we grabbed all the wine. The first stop was Sparkling Pointe for a six-pack of fine bubbly. This quarter we got 2017 Brut First Disgorgement, two 2018 Topaz Imperial Brut Rośe, a NV Nature, a 2011 Brut Seduction, and a NV Cuvée Carnaval Blancs. A bottle of the 2011 Brut Seduction did not survive dinner with the kids, and it was rather good as an opening aperitif. For those of us a bit more into the technical and scientific aspects of wine, Sparkling pointe includes the description of each wine's additional details such as varietal mix, disgorgement date, years sur lie, and residual sugar. The techie details are a helpful bit of information that I wish other wineries would also do. Given that we share the Sparkling Pointe with Drew, a six-pack never lasts long. The next stop was Sannino for their quarterly white club consisting of four white and rośe still wines. The quintet consisted of a 2020 Chilly Day Chardonnay, 2020 Riesling, 2020 Bianca White Merlot, and a 2020 Bianca Dolce. Last but far from least was a stop at Roanoke, where we picked up a 2018 Cabernet Franc, 2016 Prime Numbers, and a 2017 Site Specific Single Acre Merlot. Roanoke sends along with a nice chart that suggests how long each wine should cellar to reach its peak. Of course, give how drinkable the wines are now, it is going to be hard to keep them in the cellar for a few more years. Overall a fantastic selection, and I will be updating you on each one as we open and enjoy them.
