MAR 2021 is yet another cold bright day to start the spring wine pickup runs. The trip was a bit slower-paced as we needed
to taste and pick up some of our favored grapes for the summer Sauvignon Blanc
and its cousins. The tastings were successful,
and we returned home with over 3 cases of wine, so we should be stocked with enough
crisp white wines to pair with fresh oysters from New Wave Seafood on our upper
rear deck. The first stop was at Pellegrini
Vineyards, a large beautiful complex on the main road in Cutchogue. I missed the opportunity to take a picture of
this place but will during our next visit—we picked up three reds and two
whites after a quick tasting of the white. The reds are the Regalo 2015,
Cabernet Franc 2014, and a Petit Verdot 2012.
For the white, we chose a Sauvignon Blanc 2019. Next up was Raphael winery, which is on the south
side of route NY-25 in Peconic. Raphael’s is a stunning place with fine wines
and outstanding food; of course, we might be a bit biased as this was the
wedding place of our daughter a few years back.
For the reds, we picked up a Primo 2015, a Primo 2012, 2 - La Fontana
2014, La Fontana 2012, and a First Label Merlot 2017. For the white, we added
in 3 – First Label Sauvignon Blanc 2018, which present very well and close to a
New Zealand Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. For the Rośe, we added three bottles of the Rośe of Pinot Noir 2019, one of Jo’s favorites. The last stop
for the day was Lieb Cellars on Oregon
Road in Cutchogue. Lieb also has an
additional label called Bridge lane, which has a great selection of very moderately
price fun approachable wines that we find are great for a larger party and are
available in cans, bottles, boxes, and kegs. The reds we picked up today
include 2 Lieb Petit Verdot 2019, a bridge lane Red Blend 2019, and 3 Lieb
Estate Pinot Blanc 2019. The white was 6
Bridge Lane Sauvignon Blanc. Of course,
no wine pickup trip would be complete without a stop at the Grandson’s house on
the way home.
We had two
more wineries deliver our quarterly club shipments to us this week also. The first
arrival the week was Channing
Daughters Winery over on Scuttlehole Road in Bridgehampton. They sent two whites, a Vino Bianco 2018 and
a Saddleback Chardonnay 2019. Last and far from least; from California, three
reds from Beaulieu Vineyards consisted
of a Tapestry 2017, a Cabernet Sauvignon-Syrah 2017 Maestro collection Napa
Valley, and Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon 2017.
Of course, Jo and I will do a separate tasting of each and postings
later. So much wine, so little time. 😊
