Wine Pickups at Kontokosta, Lenz, and Sannino
Friday (12 Feb 2021) was a cold bright day perfect to do a quick pick up run to several of the wineries where we are club members. The trip was an express pickup run with no tasting and only 15 minutes allocated for each stop. I was the driver, Jo the copilot, and navigator for this run. We headed out at about 9:30, making the first stop at Kontokosta around 11:15 AM. As this is the offseason outside, the winery was still, except for the wind turbine's gentle whoosh in the background. The tasting room's view was serene across the snow-covered field leading down to the bluff overlooking the sound. We picked up a 2016 Merlot, 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon and a 2018 Sauvignon Blanc Barrel select. As my son is a member also, we picked up his quarterly club selection. From there, it was on to Lenz by 11:34 AM. Lenz has a fine selection of wines, and they allow you to customize your quarterly club selections, which always means that I add to the suggested list to fill out a case. Lenz's tasting room has the feel of a rustic barn with a great team of folks that are really into their wine. Today's full case had a 2014 Old Vines Chardonnay, two 2013 old vines Cabernet Sauvignon, 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2016 Merlot, two 2013 Old Vines Merlot, 2016 Estate Selection Merlot, two 2016 Pinot Gris, and two 2019 Sauvignon Blanc. Lastly, by about 11:53, we stopped by Sannino not for a regular club pickup but rather for three bottles of the new Spice Wine in their spacious new facilities on county road 48. From there, we headed back, stopping to drop off two of the spice wines at my niece in-laws (is there such a thing?) and one bottle at the grandsons, but the wine was for his mother. To complete the run, we dropped the wine at home by about 15:30 and then had a late lunch/early dinner at one of my favorite local places Cara Mia in Seaford. I will be updating everyone on how all the wines taste shortly.
