Kontokosta Winery Sauvignon Blanc Barrel Select 2018
A few weeks ago, we did a pickup run from two of the winery clubs we are
currently in and brought home eleven different wines (15 bottles total).
Now we are drinking our way through each one. Second, up is the Kontokosta Winery Sauvignon Blanc Barrel
Select 2018. We
chilled the wine to about 58 degrees and paired it with dinner, consisting of
grilled Salmon and scallops in a light cream sauce. The wine was allowed
to breathe a bit before tasting with about five ounces in our universal stemmed
glasses. The color is pale gold with skinny legs in the glass. The
nose was light primarily with caramel and vanilla notes in part from the new
French oak aging. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium acid but far
less intense than the Lenz Sauvignon
Blanc.
The wine had a full mouthfeel, and the alcohol was medium, with medium flavor
intensity. The flavor was buttered pecans reflecting the Malo-lactic
fermentation. All of this combined, it was much closer to a Sancerre from
France. The wine paired fine with the grilled Salmon and balanced the richness
of the scallops perfectly. The Kontokosta Sauvignon Blanc will complement
grilled and poached seafood as well as summer vegetables.
